Nation’s Bravest: Firefighters Unite is the first ever, national firefighter calendar, which officially debuted in NYC on August 18, 2011. This 12-month calendar boasts a dozen brave firefighters from all across the country, each chosen on merits of physical aptitude, work ethic and extracurricular activities. Let’s not forget their sparkling personalities! Nation’s Bravest: Firefighters Unite benefits twelve separate charities from the following cities: Charlotte, Chicago, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Francisco, St. Louis, Seattle and Tampa. Each firefighter is photographed on location. There is no green screening or compositing involved. The superimposed look is derived from a technique called HDRI, or High Dynamic Range Imaging, in which multiple photographs are merged to allow a greater range of luminance between the lightest and darkest areas of an image. The HDRI effect is applied only to the background, hence a sharper, more exaggerated local contrast from the foreground.

“I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling. Our proudest moment is to save lives.” ~ Chief Edward F. Croker, FDNY
