Captain Leonard Daigle, Jr. is a member of the New Orleans Fire Department, which supports Nation’s Bravest. After Hurricane Katrina, the NOFD rescued over 17,000 people, often using their personal boats. Furthermore, not a single firefighter deserted their post during the storm. The NOFD suffered enormous losses, thus members of the New Orleans business community formed the New Orleans Fire Fighters Foundation in 2006 to help the NOFD rebuild. Currently, the foundation is raising funds for thermal imagers, which show a heat picture of the fire scene. Because infrared radiation is not blocked by smoke, fire fighters can use thermal imagers to see through smoke, enabling them to find victims faster, identify the seat of the fire earlier, and detect structural dangers that could put them at risk. One of the foundation’s major fundraisers is the New Orleans Fire Fighters Look Hot Calendar.
Mr. New Orleans is the 4th generation in his family to live in “The Big Easy.” As a citizen of New Orleans, he too endured the wrath of Hurricane Katrina, losing everything he owned, as did most of his family. Despite this extreme hardship, he remained, participating in the rescue efforts. He is an artist and enjoys painting and drawing. He has created a series of ten illustrations that will be auctioned off for his charity.
